OAKLAND — The Garrett County Democratic Central Committee has announced the opening of the Democratic Headquarters at 208 South Second St. in Oakland.
The headquarters opened on Sept. 6 and is scheduled to be open on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., in conjunction with the Farmers Market, and from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays through Election Day. Additional hours will be held as needed.
On Saturday, Sept. 10, an Open House Celebration will be held featuring meet-and-greet sessions with local candidates. Voters of all parties are invited in to see the space and have some cake and punch. From 10 a.m. to noon, they can meet and talk with Mike Dreisbach, candidate for Maryland Senate, D-1, and Bob Spear, candidate for Maryland House of Delegates, D-1A. From noon to 2 p.m., candidates for the Garrett County Board of Commissioners Judy Carbone (CD-1) and Patrick Hunt (CD-2), will be available for conversations with voters.
Democrats and those affiliated with other parties who are interested in learning more about Democratic candidates are encouraged to visit with the headquarters’ volunteers, who can also help voters with voter registration and making voting plans for November. Yard signs are available supporting the election of Democratic candidates up and down the ballot. These include local, state and federal candidates who represent the citizens of Garrett County.
Other Democratic candidates running on the General Election ballot and representing Garrett County are Sen. Chris Van Hollen and Congressman David Trone, who are both up for re-election. At the top level of Maryland government are Wes Moore and Aruna Miller, running for governor and lieutentnat governor; Brooke Lierman, running for Maryland comptroller; and Anthony Brown, running for Maryland attorney general.
Erin-Ruth Natividad is also on the ballot as a candidate for Garrett County commissioner (CD-3).
As Trone recently said, “Now is not the time to sit on the sidelines.”
The Garrett County Democrats have been taking this to heart and working hard to get out the vote through voter education, promoting Democratic candidates and bringing Democrats and other voters together for good conversation.
“At our Democratic Headquarters Open House, we are looking forward to welcoming a large gathering of voters interested in a healthy future for our county, including a future where everyone has a voice in our local government and there are effective solutions in place to make our community thrive for all,” says Betty Pritt, Democratic Central Committee chair “We have the Democratic candidates on the ballot who are just the people to make that vision happen.”
