VIENNA, VA — Rustic Love's heart yard signs are prevalent throughout Vienna, and now residents can get unique versions of these signs painted by artists.
Rustic Love and Vienna Arts Society, two nonprofits based in Vienna, have teamed up for an auction that launched Sunday. The auction features 20 heart signs built by Rustic Love volunteers and painted by Vienna Arts Society artists.
The auction is a fundraiser for both nonprofits. Rustic Love creates wooden heart signs and donates proceeds to organizations addressing food insecurity, such as Committee for Helping Others, Belong and school food pantries. Rustic Love was formed during the COVID-19 pandemic to address food insecurity.
The auction also supports Vienna Arts Society's work to promote the arts and contribute to the community. Vienna Arts Society has existed for 53 years and runs art galleries, classes and workshops and other events.
"This represents [Vienna Art Society's] first fundraiser since the pandemic shutdown of the Art Center and many of our venues," said Lu Elizabeth Cousins, Vienna Arts Society director, in an email to Patch. "We're hoping for a boost through this online auction as we continue all of our community outreaches including the World Central Kitchen as they feed and support the displaced Ukrainian community throughout Europe."
The fundraiser has a goal of raising $4,000. The auction runs through 12 p.m. on July 23.
