The Yard of the Month awards are back this year for Watertown residents and businesses.
The goal of the awards is to recognize the efforts of Watertown residents who take pride in their homes and their landscaping and inspire others to do the same, according to a news release. Businesses are also eligible to participate.
A home from each of Watertown's four wards and one "whimsical" yard will be honored each month this summer.
A committee made up of volunteer master gardeners and citizens will look to see if yards are well-groomed and attractive and if buildings, fences, porches and patios on the property are in good repair. Extra consideration may be given to properties that have invested extra effort through the use of attractive art.
Each nomination submitted is given a drive-by judging.
To nominate a yard, even your own, fill out a form provided at nomination drop boxes. Drop boxes are watering cans placed at County Fair Foods, HyVee, and the Watertown Regional Library.
Winners will receive a specially designed Yard of the Month sign placed in their front yard for one month, a certificate of recognition signed by the mayor and public acknowledgement.
